Our programme enables the children to learn about Christianity and the other principal religions represented in Great Britain. The children study units on Judaism, Islam, Buddhism and Humanism as well as in-depth study of aspects of Christianity. Links are made to IPC topics where possible. Through this, we hope to enable the children to develop a positive attitude towards other people, respecting their right to hold different beliefs from their own, and towards living in a society of diverse religions.
Teaching is not designed to convert or urge a particular religion or religious belief; our aim is that the children will gain knowledge and understanding about religion. We aim to encourage attitudes of respect, open-mindedness, self-esteem, sensitivity, appreciation and wonder, as well as to develop skills of reflection, empathy, communication, analysis, reasoning and enquiry.
