You are amazing!

2500 Stourfield Junior 069I know that you probably know that already but your generosity has meant that we were able to send £923 across to Breast Cancer Care before half term. During the two weeks prior to Remembrance Sunday, there was a steady flow of children bringing in money for poppies, with a total of £323.46 donated to The Royal British Legion. On Friday, we raised another £742.26 for Children in Need - £400 of this was from contributions for wearing “spots” to school and a further £342.26 was raised at the cake sale after school.

In addition to this, we raised an awesome £8000 at our Firework display earlier on this month.  All of this money will go directly to supporting our school with trips, events and resources and Mrs Mac and I have already had a discussion about using some of this money for some new laptops and other “techy” stuff for help with learning in the classroom.

The feedback from our Emotional Health and Well Being afternoon was extremely positive: one parent commented that listening to Meredith from the Safer School’s Team talk about online safety should be compulsory for all parents. In addition to this, parents who attended really appreciated the information that we were able to give about the things we do or have access to un relation to mental health. In light of this, we are planning to run the event again, this time in the evening, so that there is an opportunity for those of you who may have been at work to attend. Look out for a new date in the new year.  

We are in need of any Lego that you may have at home that you are no longer using or just seem to be left over from kits that you have bought. Please could you send anything that you have into school in a plastic bag or container and ask your child to take it to Mrs Dixon or Mrs Boyne in their room or drop it in at the school office. Many thanks again.Firstly, a big well done to everyone who took part in the Bournemouth Marathon Festival over the weekend. Particular congratulations go to Millie in Y4 who won the Girls 1.5k junior race and to Ben, one of our former pupils who won the Men’s 10k. It was a beautiful day for running and great to see so many of you out supporting your family, friends … it really does help to have people along the route giving you a shout of encouragement and a wave and many thanks to those of you who did that for me when you spotted me amongst the swell of half marathon runners.



As detailed in October’s Charity News Update, from Monday December 4th – Thursday December 14th, each class will be making donations towards a ‘reverse advent calendar’. Each class will have a box that, over the two-week period, will need donated items added to it and, on the last day of term, we will donate these boxes to the Southbourne Food Bank in time for Christmas. The children may want to donate food such as pasta or tins, or they could to donate necessities such as a toothbrush and toothpaste.



Now Children in Need is over, it is time to turn our thoughts to the end of term and it is already beginning to sound a lot like Christmas! We have liaised with the infant school over the timings of our respective Christmas performances this year and have moved some things around to avoid any clashes. The timetable for junior school performances is as follows:


Thursday, December 7th:

1030: 3BM & 3MW

1400: 3TL & 3MT

Friday, December 8th:

1030: 4AH, 4PT & 4SD

1400: 4REB & 4MRT

Wednesday, December 13th:

1030: 5MD & 5NM

1400: 5TE & 5JM

Thursday, December 14th:

1030: 6CS & 6MC

1400: 6GS & 6HC


As there are only two classes taking part at any one time (apart from the first performance in Year 4), we are sure that we can accommodate two/three audience members per child per performance. If our estimates are incorrect and you do have to stand, please accept our apologies; we are just trying to extend a welcome to as many people as possible who wish to attend.

If you have a pre-school child who can sit on your lap, then they do not count as one of your seats – but we would appreciate your co-operation in leaving any buggies or push chairs in the front entrance and in taking them out of the hall, if they become noisy and a distraction to other people.

We anticipate that each performance will last approximately 60 minutes.

We will be having a retiring collection after each of these performances to support our local chosen charity - The Amelia-Grace Rainbow Foundation, which raises funds to support sick children and their families in Dorset.


Other News

After school on Friday December 8th, the PFA will be holding their Annual Winter Wonderland on our school playground. This event has been co-ordinated to take place at the same time as the Infant School’s Christmas fair and we hope that this will be a fantastic way to bring our school communities together. Further details about stalls, rides and a special visitor, to follow…

On Sunday, 10th December, the choir will be taking part at the Family Christmas celebration at St. Christopher’s Church at 6.00pm. All are welcome to come to attend. The Lower School and Upper School choir will receive a separate letter regarding arrangements for Christmas “gigs” at their rehearsals this week.

On Monday 11th December, as a reward for coming first in the Autumn Term team points chart, the winning SJS Team will be able to attend school in mufti clothes. We will be announcing which Team colour has won during assembly on 4th December. Look out for a message to confirm which colour team has triumphed this term!

Finally, we will also be having our own end of term service at St. Christopher’s at 0915 on Friday, 15th December. This is for pupils and staff only, owing to space, but parents who are able to volunteer to help walk the children across are welcome to stay for the service. Please speak to Mrs Mellor or Mrs Lakin in the school office, if you are able to help.
